Once again, the Air Conditioning Contractors of America-Arizona (ACCA-AZ) are giving back to the community to help needy Valley residents stay cool and safe this summer by offering selected Maricopa homeowners with free home cooling system repair or replacement.
Project Cool Aid, a collaborative project of the ACCA-AZ and United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona (UCP) will focus on assisting individuals and families with disabilities who are in desperate need of assistance.
“We are proud to partner with UCP of Central Arizona. For 60 years UCP has provided comprehensive services to individuals with disabilities and their families by providing physical and developmental support as well as educational growth” says Antoine Coffer, Chief Executive Officer, ACCA-AZ. “Through our partnership we will be able to reach out to the disabled community and provide a safer and healthier home environment for those families and children who need it most”
In the 2014 Case for Inclusion Arizona ranked first in the nation for Medicaid services for individuals with developmental disabilities and was recognized for its success in encouraging families to care for their loved ones in a homelike setting. More than 90 percent of Arizonans with developmental disabilities receive services in a home like setting and for many of these individuals certain medical conditions are affected by the extreme summer temperatures.
While Project Cool Aid will focus on assisting individuals and families with disabilities; senior citizens, the working poor and homeowners with extreme financial concerns are encouraged to apply.
Maricopa County homeowners have from May 12, 2014 to May 30, 2014 to submit application to Project Cool Aid. The application consists of the following:
- Homeowner’s name, e-mail, home address and telephone number
- Description of cooling system needs
- Number and description of family members
- Contractors must have a safe environment to perform the repairs, which will be determined at the inspection conducted by contractors or ACCA-AZ staff.
- Statement of special circumstances including health, disability issues and extreme financial concerns (200 word maximum)
- Participants will be asked to sign a release authorizing the work and agreeing to share their story.
